For a good start to this month dedicated entirely to the organization Psy'chien international, find out more about them and all they have to offer!
WHO IS PSY'CHIEN INTERNATIONAL ?
Created in 2015 in France, Psy'Chien internationalized their services in North America by also establishing itself in Quebec in 2017.
The aim of this organization is to offer the education and certification of psychiatric assistance dogs as well as various (psychiatric with mobility or visual impairment). They are also committed to raising awareness about positive, benevolent dog education, with respect for dogs.
Close to their beneficiaries, they ensure their support in order to help them in their process and the defense of their rights, while respecting the needs related to their disabled.
Finally, they also work to raise awareness of the impact of mental health on a person’s independence and show how the service dog alleviates the daily suffering experienced by the person with a disability..
WHAT ARE THEIR BIGGEST DIFFICULTIES?
Their biggest difficulty is finding adequate funding to continue to develop the organization and thus support people in need.
WHAT MAKES PSY'CHIEN INTERNATIONAL STAND OUT FROM OTHERS?
Psy'chien prioritizes dogs already belonging to their beneficiary. Thus, they guide them in education for the work of assistance.
Psy'Chien is committed to training its team in non-violent communication and the benevolent care of all handicapped people. Good treatment and respect for dogs are also part of their essential values, written into their statutes. Their assistance dogs are all educated strictly with non-coercive methods and in light of current scientific knowledge of canine behavior.
Psy’Chien promotes non-discrimination of people in all circumstances and for all reasons, considering that each individual is valuable and should be treated with respect, equality and dignity. Non-discrimination also applies to the dogs they train. All dog breeds have their chance, as long as they meet the needs of their recipient, which the agency measures during their selection and assessments. In addition, they wish to favor shelter dogs.
WHAT MOTIVATED THEM TO TAKE PART IN THIS BEAUTIFUL CHALLENGE?
When they realized that the majority of organizations did not offer the option of training their own dogs or having other animals at home.
WHAT ARE THEIR PROJECTS FOR THE FUTURE?
When they have adequate funding, their project would be to be able to obtain
a Psy'chien "school" (office, education room, bedrooms, cafeteria, etc.),
offer our services free of charge as soon as possible
and possibly go through the accreditation process (legally optional) with Assistance Dog International.
FINALLY AN ANECDOTE TO TELL?
We have dogs of all breeds and sizes, from Chihuahua to Great Dane. What matters is their ability to meet the needs of their beneficiary.
